 As a club, the Snake River SCCA was introduced to a local charity-The International Children’s Surgical Foundation. This charity was founded by Dr. Geoff Williams a Boise plastic surgeon, who now works fulltime to help children all over the world who’ve been afflicted with facial deformities. In America, all children born with cleft lip/cleft palate are treated no matter their ability to pay. In third world countries this is not the case. Children in these countries are ostracized and considered cursed. They have difficulty eating, drinking, speaking, and often look startlingly grotesque. These sweet children, if left untreated, live lives of seclusion and loneliness--but it doesn’t have to be this way. On July 5th, SRSCCA is participating in a benefit/autocross sponsored by ICSF to help these children. In advance of the autocross raffle tickets will be sold. At the end of the autocross on July 5th, the raffle will be drawn. This is an easy way to really make a difference in a child's life!  As the event master for this Sundays event I wondered how we as a club could get more involved in this Big Boy Toy Show.
Through Brian, I got in touch with Jim Reidenbaugh the event promoter, long story short, we came up with a “Poker Run” for us to give away a few items (a helicopter ride for two and some donated “BBQ Dinners” among other things). My thoughts were, we could give some rides in our cars to the people who have worked hard for him to make his event happen. So I was thinking a seven-card poker run could happen as you cross the finish. Each time, for seven times crossing the finish (less distracting than the start), you would draw a card. Then we added the idea of having a number of winners that ended up playing a round of blackjack for the prizes. So lets say the IMS class runs together and we produce one or two winners. And then the SP run group produces more winners and so on. At the end we sit down all the winners and play blackjack as a two run run-off (fun runs) for all the prizes. (Editors note: sounds like full details are still being developed, full explanation at the drivers meeting) With this idea everyone who drove in our event has an equal chance to win some of the awesome prizes donated by the participating vendors. We can do this and bring the Big Boy Toy Show to an end with an added bonus. Chuck Christopher |
